Effect of nitriding process parameters on ferromanganese alloy

Abstract: The dose effect relationships of temperature, time, carbon content and pressure in gas-solid reaction nitriding of ferromanganese were studied by 24 factorial design technique. The design is based on the experimental results of nitriding two grades of ferromanganese alloy containing 0.23 C and 7.1 C at 700 ° C and 950 ° C, 2 hours and 6 hours and nitrogen pressure of 1 and 8   the calculation required for the bar is carried out by MATLAB. It is found that the positive effect of temperature is the largest, while the negative effect of carbon content is the largest. Nitrogen pressure has a more positive effect than time. A combination of two or more parameters, temperature, nitrogen pressure, and timedifferent extent. The interaction combination between carbon and one or more of parameters of time, temperature, or nitrogen pressure has negative effect on nitriding process. The driven models were found to be in good agreement with the experiments and published work of nitriding process of ferromanganese containing different carbon contents (0.23–7.1 ) in temperature range 700°C–950°C, with nitrogen pressure up to 8 bar, and during time of 2–6 hours.
