Preparation and properties of agricultural residue iron concentrate pellets

Abstract: In this paper, carbon containing pellets were prepared from crop residual carbon and iron concentrate, and their properties were studied. The experimental results show that the strength of pellets is related to concentrate particle size, moisture in pellet mixture, the content of bentonite and crop derived carbon powder, as well as roasting and reduction temperature. The fine particle size of raw materials and the increase of bentonite content are conducive to the improvement of pellet strength. The appropriate molar ratio of carbon to oxygen is 1.0, and the appropriate ratio of water and binder is 8.0 and 6.5 respectively. The particle strength increases with the increase of temperaturesing the reduction temperature, and when the temperature reached 1200°C, accompanied by the fast reduction of iron and the formation of crystal stock, the dropping strength of product pellets was 15 times and the compressive strength was 1650 N; this may be improved by grinding of the concentrate, leading to acceptable strength for the blast furnace.
