Flexural behavior of FA / GGBFS geopolymer concrete composite beams at high temperature

Abstract: As a promising alternative to OPC concrete, geopolymer concrete has been studied and proved to have excellent mechanical properties. The study of thermal behavior at the scale of structural elements is of great significance for introducing new materials into engineering applications. Four geopolymer concrete beams with the same reinforcement structure and similar concrete strength and four OPC concrete counterparts are subjected to three different heating conditions at the rate of ISO834. The test results show that the geopolymer concrete beam has color change, serious cracking and no spalling after exposure. Under load, geopolymer concrete specimens show low crack resistance and flexural stiffness. The residual load capacity is 110 , 107 and 90 respectivelyf the ambient specimen for the geopolymer concrete samples and 103 , 97 , and 80 for the OPC concrete samples. To some extent, the geopolymer concrete beams achieved superior fire endurance compared to their OPC concrete counterparts.
