Abstract: Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas and SF6 gas mixture are widely used in gas insulation system (GIS) because of their good dielectric and thermal properties. Among the various gas mixtures studied so far, SF6 air, SF6-CO2 and SF6-N2 are the most commonly used gas mixtures. In addition, these mixtures have many technical advantages in GIS. These gases are non-toxic and nonflammable, have low sensitivity to heterogeneity and high liquefaction temperature under high pressure. GIS, switchgear, circuit breakers and substations are systems using alternating current and uneven electric field. Therefore, in this study, the breakdown mechanism of 0.125, 0.5, 1 and 20 SF6 mixture under AC voltage is studied and explainednism.
