Effect of fiber orientation on properties of artificially oriented steel fiber reinforced concrete

Abstract: The fiber utilization rate of directionally distributed fiber concrete is better than that of randomly distributed fiber concrete. However, it is difficult to control the direction of optical fiber, which limits its application. In this paper, the feasibility of directional fiber in 3D concrete printing is simulated by using the method of artificial directional fiber. Based on artificially oriented steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens, the orientation characteristics of oriented fiber reinforced concrete specimens were studied. The differences of gravity effect and boundary effect between ordinary fiber reinforced concrete and artificial oriented fiber reinforced concrete are compared. Average orientation coefficient of randomly distributed fiber reinforced concretewas 0.59, whereas this value in directionally distributed fibre-reinforced concrete was over 0.9. This result demonstrated the feasibility of manually orienting the fibres in steel fibre-reinforced concrete in layer-by-layer casting.
