Study on nonlinear strength characteristics and damage statistical constitutive model of frozen sand

Abstract: There are many defects in geotechnical materials, such as cracks, cavities and inclusions, which make their mechanical properties very random and uncertain. Under load, the soil structure changes from micro defect to macro failure zone, and gradually loses its bearing capacity. Based on the test data of frozen sand, a new nonlinear strength equation between the first principal stress and the third principal stress is proposed σ-τ Nonlinear strength characteristics in plane. In addition, assuming that the micro length of frozen soil obeys Weibull distribution function, a statistical damage constitutive model based on continuous damage mechanics (CDM) framework is establishednd a high accuracy. Compared with experimental data, the new model can well grasp the nonlinear strength properties and simulate the stress-strain relationships under different confining pressures for frozen sandy soils.
