Abstract: This paper describes the mechanism of a new process, that is, the comprehensive pyrolysis tar decomposition process of oil palm empty fruit bundle (EFB -) derived biochar by decomposing tar vapor on the pore surface and adding solid carbon into biochar by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI). The carbon permeable biochar product was characterized to study its possibility as a substitute for some coke powder in ironmaking. It is suggested that carbon permeable biochar be used in sintering process to reduce coke consumption and carbon dioxide emission in iron and steel industry.
