Performance test of new connectors of bamboo (wood) frame structure under cyclic load

Abstract: Connector is an important part of bamboo wood structure, which directly affects the overall performance and safety of the structure. Based on the comprehensive analysis of the mechanical properties of several wood connectors, a new type of bamboo (wood) frame connector is proposed in this paper. Three full-scale T-joint specimens were designed to study their mechanical properties under cyclic loading. The thickness of hollow steel columns of the three specimens is different. The sample is loaded under displacement control at a loading rate of 10   mm min until the sample reaches the failure state. It is observed that the failure of the three specimens is caused by the buckling of the flange under pressure, and the steel of the connector will not yield. Load displaycement hysteretic curve for three specimens is relatively plump, and the stiffness of connection degenerates with the increasing of cyclic load. The maximum rotation is 0.049 rad, and the energy dissipation coefficient is 1.77. The thickness of the hollow steel column of the connector has significant impact on the energy dissipation capacity and the strength of the connection. A simplified moment-rotation hysteresis model for the joint was proposed.
