Wear and friction evaluation of different tool steels for hot stamping

Abstract: The purpose of this work is to study the durability of hot stamping tool steel by comparing the wear resistance of three hot working tool steels. The friction and wear behavior of different tool steels sliding with 22MnB5 uncoated steel at high temperature was studied by using Optimol SRV reciprocating friction and wear tester at 40 ° C and 200 ° C. Our results show that the friction decreases with the increase of temperature, while for the second and third test tool steels, the wear of tool steels increases with the increase of temperature. The slightly better wear performance of steel sample 1 comes from the hardness of vanadium rich carbides in martensitic microstructure.
