Optimal design and performance of porous concrete for heavy traffic pavement in cold and heavy rainfall area of Northeast China

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to solve the drainage stability of pavement base in cold and rainstorm areas. Taking porous concrete as the research object, the optimal design of porous concrete is determined by step filling method and orthogonal test method, and the relationship between porosity and connected porosity of porous concrete is analyzed. In addition, the drainage performance and frost resistance of pavement, the compressive strength, flexural strength and compressive elastic modulus of porous concrete are also studied. The results show that the water cement ratio has the most significant effect on the strength of porous concrete with stepped filling method. In addition, there is a good linear relationship between connected porosity and target porosity; That is, DRAnage performance increases with the increase in connected porosity, whereas the frost resistance, compressive strength, flexural tensile strength, and compressive elastic modulus decrease with the increase in connected porosity. Based on an engineering project in Inner Mongolia (in China), it was shown that porous concrete with a goal porosity of 15 used as a pavement base could meet the requirements of cold weather, showers, and heavy traffic.
