Influence of environmental conditions on cracking tendency of dry mixed plastering mortar

Abstract: Cracking tendency is one of the important properties of dry mixed plastering mortar (DMPM). Environmental conditions are the key factors affecting the cracking tendency of DMPM. In order to evaluate the crack resistance of DMPM and reveal the influence of environmental conditions on the cracking trend of DMPM, a series of tests were carried out on the constraint induced cracking behavior, free shrinkage, water loss and mechanical properties of DMPM. The limiting shrinkage test is based on ring test and plate test. The results show that the initial drying age has a significant effect on the cracking tendency of DMPM. When the initial drying age is 2D, there is a stress equilibrium period. However, this phenomenon cannot be observed whential age was 3 d, 5 d, and 7 d. In order to eliminate the cracking tendency of DMPM, it should avoid water loss from the plaster layer during construction in practical engineering, especially, before initial drying ages.
