Abstract: The deterioration mechanism of recycled gypsum (R-P) was studied. Particle size distribution (PSD), Brian method, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and nitrogen adsorption porosity method were used to analyze the large specific surface area (SSA), improper preparation temperature, increased water demand and microstructure of R-P. The results show that the performance of R-P deteriorates, but its strength decreases from 50 under the same manufacturing process to 30 - 40 under similar specific surface area. The analysis shows that large SSA, poor morphology, narrow PSD and increased internal detection lead to increased water demand. In addition, improper temperature will lead to performance degradationof preparation, loose structure, and large average pore diameter in hardened R-P as well.
