Experimental study on multi cycle repeated aging regeneration of asphalt cementitious materials

Abstract: Multi cycle reuse (RAP) of recycled asphalt pavement is the latest development of sustainable pavement material technology. In order to study the aging law and recovery possibility of asphalt binder in reused asphalt mixture, rolling film oven test (RTFOT) was used to heat the original asphalt AH-70 samples for 40, 85, 180, 240 and 300 minutes at 163 ° C to simulate different aging degrees. Then, the elderly were rejuvenated by adding self-made rejuvenating agent. The aging and recovery process was repeated for 5 cycles to simulate the reuse of rap adhesive. In repeated cycles, the content of rejuvenating agent varies with different cycle times or aging duration. Initially, the optimal content of rejuvenating agent is estimated by empirical formulaula and finally obtained by comparative tests. Empirical rheological tests and the infrared spectral (IR) analysis were done before and after each cycle of recycling. Results indicate that for impact on deterioration of asphalt binders, ageing time is more important than cycle number. Meanwhile, the asphalt after multicycle repeated ageing and recycling can be restored to the empirical rheological indices level of the virgin asphalt and meet specifications requirements.
