Abstract: The purpose of this study is to study the ability of chitin nanocrystals as stable components to prepare poly (L, L- lactide) microparticles via Pickering oil water emulsion solvent evaporation technology. Unequal diameter chitin nanocrystals were extracted from two different chitin samples of crab shell by acetic acid hydrolysis, and analyzed by atomic force microscopy, dynamic light scattering and FTIR spectroscopy. The extracted nanocrystals have no difference in chemical structure, but have different morphology and aspect ratio, which is a function of the crude chitin used. Effects of chitin nanocrystalline characteristics and aqueous concentration on the total yield, particle size distribution, shape and surface morphology of polylactic acide microparticles was evaluated.
