Low temperature brazing of titanium with aluminum base solder alloy

Abstract: Considering the cost and maintaining its mechanical properties, brazing titanium with low melting point filler alloy is the first choice. However, brazing titanium at low temperature is still a challenge, especially for aluminum based filler alloys. In the past few years, several brazing methods and aluminum based fillers have been developed to meet industrial requirements; Some of them may meet some of these requirements. In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the application of ultrasonic in brazing, which helps to shorten the time and reduce the necessity of special brazing environment, so as to reduce the cost and improve the applicability. Commercial and experimental aluminum based fillers with different compositions were used to braze titanium below the transition temperatures review; including the procedures of traditional and ultrasound-assisted brazing methods. Correspondingly, the effects of brazing conditions and alloying elements on the mechanical properties and the intermetallic compounds formation are examined.
