Effect of adding recast materials on metal ceramic bonding quality: macro, micro and nano studies

Abstract: The use of recast alloy in dental restoration may affect the quality of metal ceramic bonding. However, scientists, alloy manufacturers and prosthetics still hold different views. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of recast NiCrMo alloy on metal ceramic bonding quality. The study was carried out on macro, micro and nano scales, using three-point bending test procedure, hardness test, atomic force microscope and SEM analysis. SEM analysis shows that the metal ceramic bond has good integrity. The index of all test samples was greater than 45   MPa. Samples made of 50 and 100 brand new materials recorded the highest values. SEM analysis after bending test confirmed good metal ceramic bonding and showed adesive-cohesive fracture. The largest hardness of metal plates was found for the samples containing 50 of the recycled material. Atomic force microscopy studies showed that the alloy containing 50 of the recycled material was characterized by the highest values of surface roughness parameters.
