Effect of high temperature on natural pozzolan and its mixed mortar with electric arc furnace slag

Abstract: This study mainly studies the mechanical behavior of basalt volcanic ash (VA) and fly ash (FA) as cement substitutes at high temperature. For this purpose, the cement content has been partially replaced with or without electric arc furnace slag. Four different temperature ranges (200 ℃, 400 ℃, 600 ℃ and 800 ℃) were selected and the modified mixture was placed at these gradually increasing temperatures. The samples were cured and cooled by air and water cooling techniques. The test results are determined by examining the weight and compressive strength of the samples before and after exposure to each temperature level. The pozzolanic potential of pozzolanic and fly ash samples was determined by intensity activity index. After analyzing tst results, it has been found that there is a significant effect on the compressive strength of mortar mixes at the early ages of its strength gain. However, at the later ages of curing, samples modified with volcanic and fly ash with the presence of electric arc furnace slag have shown a better performance than control mix in terms of strength and weight loss.
