Effect of anionic polyacrylamide on structural stability of concentrated tail mortar liquid transported by pipeline

Abstract: Taking super fine tailings slurry (STS), fine tailings slurry (FTS) and unsorted tailings slurry (UTS) of a gold mine as examples, a series of indoor shear tests were carried out to study the effect of anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) on the structural stability of concentrated tailings slurry transported by pipeline. The experimental results show that FTS and UTS have the characteristics of shear thinning and shear thickening in constant shear test, respectively. After adding APAM, the apparent viscosity standard deviation of FTS, UTS and STS with shear rate of 30   s − decreased by 66.67 , 61.40 and 35.33 respectively. APAM improves the strength of flocculation structure, inhibits the hindered settlement of coarse tailings and improves the structurestability of the solid particles on the structural plane, and assists pipeline transportation of the thickened tailings slurry.
