Effect of parameters and chip slenderness ratio on drilling process quality of AISI 1050 steel

Abstract: Chip slenderness ratio is an important parameter in theory and practical machining operation. In the pre drilling operation of AISI 1050 steel alloy, the effects of the selected parameters on the chip slenderness ratio, as well as the effects of the chip slenderness ratio on thrust, surface roughness, drilling delamination, tool wear and chip morphology were studied. The main parameters affecting the chip slenderness ratio are feed speed and point angle, and the spindle speed is too small to be ignored. With the increase of chip slenderness ratio, the thrust and tool wear decrease, so as to form a suitable chip shape, but the surface roughness increases. However, the chip slenderness ratio did not changeeffect on the drilled hole delamination.
