Evaluation of self-healing properties of PE and PVA concrete by bending test

Abstract: The self-healing properties of polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) concrete were evaluated by notched three-point bending test. Four different crack induction days (7 days, 28 days, 49 days and 91 days) were used, and the same 21 day healing period was used in each case. The self-healing environment is 20 ° C water, the curing chamber temperature is 20 ° C and the humidity is 60 . The bending strength and initial bending stiffness before and after healing were compared. The results show that the strength recovery effect and stiffness recovery effect decrease with the extension of crack induction time, and the specimens in water environment have higher healing effect than those in air environment. PVA fiber has greater recovery effect than PE fiber.
