Needle free electrospinning and electrostatic spraying of polymer and aerogel particle mixtures on textiles

Abstract: The relatively low voltage (9   kV) has been demonstrated in this paper. The aerogel particles are dispersed in polymer solution, and then high electric charges are generated at the tip of the syringe by using curved wires, thus conducting electrospinning spraying without need. FTIR spectra and SEM images showed that aerogel particles were deposited on the substrate. In the case of electrospinning, the nanofiber net containing aerogel particles is covered on the surface of the fabric, while in the case of electrostatic spraying, the aerogel particles are deposited with polymer droplets. Because of the large amount of particles deposited on fabrics, electrospray technology shows great potential for fabric surface functionalization. The new method can be appliedfor transferring other particulate materials on fabric surface through needleless electrospinning and electrospraying processes.
