Optimization of preparation of waterborne polyurethane reinforced soybean based adhesive by Response Surface Methodology

Abstract: The preparation conditions of soybean based adhesive were optimized by response surface methodology. The effects of the addition amount (x1), temperature (x2) and time (x3) of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) on the wet shear strength (y) were studied. The preparation of the regression model was significant SBA (). The coefficient of determination (R2) of the model is 0.9256. The results show that the addition level of WPU (x1) has a significant effect on the wet shear strength, while the reaction temperature (x2) and reaction time (x3) have no significant effect on the wet shear strength. The optimum preparation condition of SBA is 12   101 weight percent WPU addition level   under the optimum condition, the wet shear strength is 1.07   ±   0.08   MPa, which isgood agreement with the model predicted value. An analysis of FTIR spectra of WPU, soy flour, and soy-based adhesive further confirmed the validity of the model.
