Abstract: In today s automobile manufacturing industry, automatic trajectory generation for thermal spraying application is very ideal. Due to the complex geometric structure of free-form surface, it is still a challenging task for robot to automatically track the free-form surface to meet the coating uniformity. The purpose of this study is to propose and implement a method to automatically generate robot trajectory according to the given spraying parameters (such as spray gun speed, spraying distance, spraying angle, etc.). The software development is based on an add-on program of ABB s off-line programming and simulation software footustudio. Experimental results show that this method can generate robot trajectory quickly, accurately and automaticallylly on the complex geometries by this method.
