Abstract: A simple test device and test scheme are designed to estimate the expansion deformation under lateral unconfined condition under uniaxial load and water rock interaction. On the platform of rock shear rheological testing machine ryl-600 controlled by microcomputer, the lateral unconfined expansion test of weakly expansive rock is carried out by using the simple saturated expansion test device designed by ourselves, and the properties of lateral unconfined expansion of weakly expansive rock are analyzed. Through this study, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) considering the coupling effect of load and water, the stress level is much lower than the saturated uniaxial compressive strength of mudstone, and it is found that the coupling effect is significant. (2 The swelling reveals the demonstrable time effect, which increases rapidly at the beginning of the swelling deformation, and after that, the deformation tends to maintain a certain value. (3) Both the rate and the scale of swelling deformation are restrained by the axial load.
