Model test of strengthening topsoil by plant roots under the influence of precipitation

Abstract: In the model test simulating the actual precipitation conditions, we give the results of plant root reinforcement in topsoil. In the experiment, Lentinus edodes was selected as forage to strengthen the soil. According to the different water content of plant roots in the pull-out test, the fitting formula describing the friction strength between roots and soil interface and soil water content is obtained to explain the sliding amount of slope in the process of rainfall. The test results show that in the grass planting slope model, the plant roots successfully strengthen the soil, stabilize the water content of the surface soil of the slope, and significantly delay the occurrence time of the landslide. Stars after simulated rainfalled, the reinforcement effect of the plant roots changed. As the rainfall increased, the interfacial friction between the roots and the soil exhibited a negative power function relationship with the water content. These conclusions can be used as a reference for the design of plant slope protection and reinforcement.
