Improving heat transfer performance of mass concrete by using annular fin cooling pipe

Abstract: The internal temperature of mass concrete is high, which will produce cracks. As a standard cooling technology, post cooling method is widely used to reduce the temperature of poured mass concrete. In this paper, an annular fin cooling pipe is proposed, which can increase the heat transfer area between flowing water and surrounding concrete, so as to enhance the cooling effect of post cooling method. The change and distribution of internal temperature of concrete block cooled by annular fin cooling pipe system and traditional cooling pipe system are analyzed by finite element model. It is found that for concrete blocks with annular fin cooling pipe system, the internal temperature peak can be further reducedowered. Compared with the traditional cooling pipe, the highest temperature of concrete with an annular finned cooling pipe appears earlier than that with the traditional cooling pipe.
