Abstract: This study investigated the effects of surface modification of breast implants on physicochemical and mechanical properties before and after extreme degradation experiment. For smooth and rough films, the removal of surface layer after degradation is verified, including local corrosion. FTIR results showed that low molecular weight structures were produced in all samples due to exposure to acidic and alkaline environments. In addition, the crosslinking degree of smooth samples is higher than that of rough samples. Considering the mechanical properties, there was no difference between the smooth and rough samples received and the samples after degradation study. However, the pH value of the degradation solution has an effect on the mechanical properties of the material, andbasic environment caused greater deterioration of the mechanical properties compared to acidic conditions.
