Document pages: 115 pages

Abstract: Zimbabwe after 32 years of independence and being a signatory to a number of international, regional and local conventions, has made significant strides in promoting gender equality and laws designed to promote equal opportunities between the sexes. The paper will analyze whether Zimbabwe is succeeding in mainstreaming gender equity after it had adopted the National Gender Policy, ratified international instruments and enacted and or amended laws. Women in Zimbabwe are still lagging behind men in terms of controlling resources and owning property. Factors that exacerbate gender imbalances which are: institutional procedures, culture, attitudes of the law enforcing agents, lack of financial muscle on the part of women, and insufficient information on existing rights hinder women from accessing property. Pro gender policies should be fully implemented to improve the prevailing situation.
