Abstract: The study is the survey of physics teachers’ understanding of the use of “Melting Ice Experiment” to teach heat related concepts. Sixty-six physics teachers from Kogi State of Nigeria made up the sample. A questionnaire designed to bring out clearly teaches’ understanding of the experiment was used. Analysis of the data collected shows that: i. NCE teachers with the lowest qualification had the poorest understanding of the use of the experiment; ii. Teachers had more difficulty in recalling teachable topics from memory generally; iii. The level of the student taught by the teacher had great influence on their understanding of the use of the experiment; iv. Non-preparedness of the student to learn does not affect communication of physics to students; v. Ability of the teacher to effectively communicate some heat concepts using the experiment does not depend on the simplicity of the experiment but on teachers’ intellectual development and exposure.
