Abstract: The goal of this study is to explain causes of terrorism. This study suggests that terrorism can be due to, in specific regions, high growth rates of population that generate income inequality, subsistence stress (population pressure) associated with relative deprivation of people. In addition, geospatial analysis here reveals that countries with high association between fatalities for terrorist incidents and population growth are mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and Middle East. Overall, then, one of the causes of terrorism seems to be due to sociodemographic factors combined with psycho-social risk factors.
