Abstract: The matter of vertical infection of SARS-CoV-2 is unresolved. It can, however, be that small variations in the structural polyprotein of SARS-CoV-2 enables a transplacental infection. We will compare the structural polyprotein of SARS-CoV-2 with Chikungunya (CHIK) virus and contrast it with DEN virus. At its least chikungunya is demonstrated to be able to vertically infect. We show that changing reading frame or a hick-up in tRNA mediated synthesis of structural protein allows a protein sequence on modified SARS-CoV-2 that shows CHIK characteristics.
