Abstract: The study sought to investigate the impact of motivation on employees in a poor performing company in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (that we assigned a pseudonym Elvic (Private) Limited). Guided by the main objective of explaining the effectiveness of motivation strategies employed by the company during the period 2009 to 2014, we sought to identify the motivation strategies employed by Elvic (Private) Limited before seeking to analyse their impact on performance. Using descriptive research design, data was gathered by means of structured questionnaires targeted at 32 employees of Elvic. The results from the study showed that motivation has a positive impact on the company, its employees and enhances satisfaction and retention. Based on the results, we recommend that companies should establish the most preferred strategies of motivating employees even in times of distress.
