Abstract: Unlike other industries, significant changes in the airline industry have not mainly occurred due to technological changes, but rather as a result of developments in the applicable legal framework and various institutional reforms. As a consequence of the deregulation wave which dates back to liberalization of airline sector in the United States in 1978, the airline sector has gone through drastic changes. Certain procedures and practices pertaining to the airline sector, including the pricing strategies of airlines, global airline alliances, code-sharing and aircraft lease agreements, structural barriers to competition (such as the allocation of slots), and issues relating to the consolidation of airline operators have frequently been reviewed by various competition law authorities including Turkish Competition Authority.
