Business and General Aviation as Force Multipliers in a Growing Economy: A Case for India

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to examine the conceptual framework under which business and general aviation has developed globally and the roadmap for its growth in India. It traces the growth of business and General Aviation (GA) in the United States of America (USA) and its use by various businesses to enhance productivity. The paper also examines various initiatives taken by the Government of India (GoI) in this regard. Methodology adopted for this paper was a combination of secondary research along with interviews with stakeholders. The need to connect tier-II and -III cities through the air transportation network is seeing an avid interest in the growth of business and General Aviation. International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has recently submitted its recommendations to chart out a roadmap for India’s General and Business aviation is at a nascent stage and a suitable policy framework is needed for its growth and for ensuring that it becomes a force multiplier in India.
