Abstract: A pot trial is planned to determine the chemical fertility of three different soil samples collected on a farm land. The trial is destined to examine how well cereal crops can grow on such soils. Because little information is provided regarding these soils, an omission trial will be conducted in order to assess which macro-nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S) are limiting. Although all essential micro-nutrients are equally important for cereal growth, these are not required in large amounts as compare to macro-nutrients. Moreover, the limited number of resources calls for a reasonable size of the experimental design. Thus only a few trace elements will be tested. The experiment will be conducted on closed pots with maize being the test plant. The materials and methods required to run the experiment as well as rationales for treatments and limitations of the procedures to be adopted are exposed in this report.
