Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles and Antimicrobial Activity from Spilanthes Jacq. Species from South India

Abstract: Green method of synthesizing nanoparticles from biological samples are very cost effective and non-toxic way of procuring drugs. The present study was conducted to investigate the selected Spilanthes Jacq. species from South India. From the UV-Vis studies all the plants showed the characteristic surface plasmon band in the range of 300-480 nm. Major prominent peak was shown by Spilanthes uliginosa, where narrow peak detected followed by S. ghoshinis and S. radicans. S. uliginosa was then undergone SEM for the structure, shape and size of nanoparticle, it showed spherical nature with size ranging from 170-200 nm. The antibacterial study showed an effective zone of inhibition for both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Thus the study document the silver nanoparticles synthesized from selected species of Spilanthes Jacq. Further study need to be conducted to evaluate the AgNPs capping position and invitro pharmacological study. The present work highlighted the potent role of Spilanthes uliginosa for feasible biosynthesis of antimicrobial AgNPs, which can be used as nanomedicines in many biomedical applications.
