The Challenges of Implementing Agile Scrum in Information Systems Project

Abstract: In last few years, we have been hearing about the word ‘Agile’ in the project delivery workspace. Often, project managers have constructive debates and interesting discussions among colleagues on the challenges of the Agile project. General concerns were lack of ownership of the team, unclear signal from management, ineffective cost management and an inaccuracy of the estimated time delivery. The article aims to share an observation about the challenges to enable Agile Scrum Methodology for Information System (IS) project in Malaysian context. The scope of the enablement comprises various IT sub-domains like ERP implementation, the development of Enterprise Architecture (EA) and ICT Shared Service. By having a few set of interviews with domain experts, this article can illustrate the challenges faced by the organization if the Agile Scrum methodology is adopted. The main objective of Agile framework are speed implementation and quick delivery in managing IS development projects. Therefore, at the end of this article, the organization should be able to choose either Agile Scrum or considering different Agile approaches in their next endeavor.
