Influence of Filler Loading on the Tensile Properties of Poly (Propylene Carbonate) Ligno-Cellulosic Particulate Filler Biocomposite Films

Abstract: Biodegradable composite films were fabricated using poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) and lignocellulosic coconut shell particle (CSP). The result of varying filler addition (5 to 25wt. ) on their tensile properties was investigated. The tensile strength of the composites was found to be inferior to the pure PPC matrix films however marginal improvement was noticed in case of the modulus. The stiffness of the composites enhanced until 20 wt. of CSP and was comparable with the synthetic polymers used in the packaging applications. The features of fillers and their distribution within the matrix was analyzed using the SEM micrographs.
