The Effect of Chemical Structure of Synthesised Alkanolamines for the Post Combustion Capture Process on Carbon Dioxide

Abstract: The effects of the structure in tertiary alkanolamines on CO2 absorption, cyclic capacity, apparent absorption rate and heat of absorption were investigated. We selected four tertiary alkanolamines with the modification of its chemical structure by an appropriate placement of the substituent. The results for the absorbents containing the tertiary alkanolamine and a secondary amine were compared with 30 MEA (Monoethanolamine) solution and MDEA (N-Methyldiethanolamine) absorbent. The results showed that these absorbents resulted in higher cyclic capacities and higher apparent absorption rates compared to MDEA absorbent, and heat of absorption for these absorbents was lower than that of 30wt MEA.
