Integration of Phase Change Materials in Traditional Building for Cooling Purposes Under Mediterranean Climate

Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze the thermal behavior of a stone wall with joints of clay containing micro-capsules of phase change material (PCM) in the summer under mediterranean climate.The phenomenon is solved numerically by means of the finite volume method. A computer code is implemented based on a fully implicit scheme to analyze the effect of PCM content in the wall and the effect of mediterranean climate data, which is humid climate in north, on the thermal behavior of the PCM wall, the aim of which is to improve energy efficiency in the building. Simulation results show that the integration of the PCM studied affects the thermal behavior of the wall and the integration of PCM would impact positively on the energy efficiency of the building envelope made of traditional materials under Algerian climate.
