Abstract: The perspective of fibers expanded lately and included various usages and types in the construction industry. One of the pretensions in the construction society is decreasing the environmental pollution, which can be a wide sector. This study attempts to apply the concept of sustainability and reduce the environmental pollution by cutting the plastic straws into small fibers, and adding them to plain concrete to improve its tensile strength. For this prospect, an experimental investigation was carried out to study the effect of plastic fibers made from waste straws on the properties of concrete. The percentages of fiber used were 0 , 0.5 , 1.5 and 3 (by volume). Testing conducted included slump, density, compressive and tensile strength. The addition of waste plastic fibers caused an increase in tensile strength, whereas a reduction in compressive strength was observed. The pulse velocity test results, along with the density show a slight decrease in the values compared with the control mix.
