Abstract: Multi-level inverter is an DC to AC power convertor which is implemented using power electronic semiconductor switches like IGBT and MOSFET. Multi-level inverters are becoming very attractive for industries due to their high power rating and high efficiency that can be achieved without using transformer. This also improves the overall performance of the system and produces lesser harmonics. This thesis aims to extend the knowledge about the performance of different cascaded multilevel inverter induction motor drives through harmonic analysis. A multilevel converter not only achieves high power ratings, but also improves the performance of the whole system in terms of harmonics, dv dt stresses, and stresses in the bearings of a motor. The performance analysis has been carried out and the THD is found in the open loop mode. For further reduction of harmonics in the output current of the cascaded multilevel inverter, the closed loop control analysis is performed. In this paper, the Proportional and Integral (PI) is designed for closed loop control of cascaded multilevel inverter to reduce the harmonics and simulated in MATLAB Simulink with SPWM control scheme. The comparison is made for open and closed loop control with PI controller
