Abstract: Biometrics is a technology used to identify and analyze an individual’s physical and behavioral characteristics. Unimodal biometrics uses only one characteristic to identify a person. But it often fails to accomplish the desired performance requirements due to certain limitations. To overcome the problems of unimodal biometrics, Multimodal biometric system got its importance which encompasses more than one traits of a person for the identification, verification and authorization. This paper mainly focuses on the foot modality and would explore the related work done in the field of multimodal biometrics for personal identification. The paper presents various techniques developed so far for recognizing a person’s identity using foot geometry and footprint structure.
