SIB Based on Demand Service Announcement Procedure Request to Network to Optimize Power Consumption

Abstract: eMBMS service providers pre-configured a timer at eMBMS application at user equipment to trigger service announcement procedure. This timer usually varies from one operator to other and it is in range of 15 minutes to 60 minutes or more. Whether service announcement or program list has any changes from previous list or not, user equipment trigger service announcement request & monitor procedure to fetch new list. It has observed that eMBMS service provider do not change this list frequently. This periodic procedure becomes an overhead for power consumption, computation & signaling procedure most of times. Another aspect is that if eMBMS service provider change the program list just after user equipment has finished its service announcement procedure than this changed program list will available to eMBMS application only into next pre-defined service announcement procedure cycle. This paper analyses existing mechanism for service announcement procedure and explain an optimized mechanism to overcome above mentioned problems in existing system. System Information Block (SIB) based service announcement procedure solves these issues and helps to reduce user equipment power consumption and to improve computational and signaling procedures.
