Abstract: The principle of soft switching reduces conduction and switching losses in power converters. The soft switching techniques include zero voltage switching (ZVS), which reduces the switching losses and gives high efficiency at high switching frequency. The forward converter is does step down or step up of the voltage and isolates supply and load. To improve the performance of the forward converter a PFC stage boost rectifier is combined with it. Both the PFC stage and dc to dc forward converter stage share the same PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controller. This zero voltage switching (ZVS) of power switches is used for the reduction of power switches and pulse width modulation(PWM) operation. The simulation is carried out in MATLAB SIMULINK to evaluate the performance of the converter.
