Efficient Energy Utilization in Internet of Things (IoT) Network

Abstract: IoT is a collection of smart objects that are remotely controlled by the devices across the network. The worldwide IoT technology is growing rapidly. IoT will contribute too many applications across industrial domain which makes human life safe and smart. IoT devices are constrained in terms of battery power, transmission range, processing and storage capacity. However in some way, performance of network is affected by IoT devices. Collecting data, storage, processing and transmission from such a network increases energy consumption, data congestion and reduced lifetime of network. In order to make reliable and energy efficient network, researchers have proposed various techniques and approaches. In this paper, various techniques are reviewed to improve energy consumption and prolong lifetime. In our proposed work, multicast routing technique is used to build tree structured network and remove limitation of multihop in content centric network and clustering mechanism merged with sleep scheduling mechanism is considered to improve energy efficiency and expand lifespan of IoT network. For measure the performance analysis, NS2 is used as a tool.
