Sino-Japanese military ties rely on political mutual trust,_英语新闻

Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 10 – Recently, as Sino-Japanese political relations have begun to warm up, with more military exchanges being kicked off between the two countries. The foundation of Sino-Japanese military ties should rest on the political mutual trust between the two countries. Only by respecting each other and carrying out more cooperations between the two countries can they realize a “win-win situation,” Ren Xiangqun, a researcher at the Military Theory and Strategy Research Institute under the Academy of Military Sciences, said on Monday.

 

As a researcher, Wang attended the Conflict Prevention and Crisis Avoidance Management Seminar held in Japan not long ago.

 

In an interview given to a reporter, she said that during the past 30 years, Sino-Japanese military relations had staggered on without making any major breakthrough. The foundamental reason for such fragile relation was the unstable political relations between the two countries, which was manifested by Japanese government’s attitude toward historical issues.

 

“Sino-Japanese military relation is the weakest part of all relations between the two countries. Over one thousand years, the cultural and economic exchanges have benefited the peoples of two countries greatly. However, in military aspect, Chinese people were the victims of Japanese militarism,” she said.

 

If Japan wants to make substantial progress, or even carry out military exchanges with China, it has to re-establish its image so as to win the trust of all peoples in Asia, including the trust of Chinese people, she said.

 

“Political trust is a basis for the possible military exchanges between China and Japan. In order to establish a good political relation, Japan should establish itself as a big, responsible nation, face its historical wrongdoings and respect its neighbors. The unwise doings of the Japanese government on historical issues will be detrimental to Japan’s own interest today and further damage its international position in the world in future. The military exchanges and cooperations between China and Japan will be possible only if the two countries can develop their relations based on cooperations and mutual success. It is only on this basis that a mutual trust scheme between the two countries can be established and a strategic, mutually beneficial relation finally be set up,” Ren noted
