China to control population under 1.45 bln in 2020_英语新闻

Chinanews, Beijing, April 30 - The Population Development Plan for the 11th Five-Year Plan Period (2006-2010) and 2020 was released recently, saying that China's goal is to control its total population under 1.36 billion in 2010, and 1.45 billion in 2020, and to attain a more balanced sex ratio.

 

The major tasks to be fulfilled in China's family planning in the five years are：

 

A stable fertility rate must be maintained, to establish a coordinately updated human resource. The government should also enhance exercising the family planning policy on shifting population.

 

The quality of newborns must be improved, so must the population structure, too. The plan calls for a widespread concern for preventing and treating congenital defects. A more dependable insurance system must also be set up to support the aging society.

 

Education will play an important part in the future, as it is the only way to make most of China's rich human resources.

 

China still needs to pay more attention to social equality, especially the gap between town and country, between east and west, thus to ease the pressures from great shifting population.

 

Public health and other l insurance system will be improved, without which it is impossible to build a harmonious society.
