A recent survey in 3 high schools of the Putuo District in Shanghai reveals that 22% of boys complain that girls around them are "brutal', while 27% of girls think that most boys are sissies in lack of independent thinking.
"Quite a number of girls in my school are learning martial arts, and chances are some boys are beaten to tears by girls," said Gu, a teacher from a local senior high school. Gu believes that it is good for girls to be courageous, bold and straightforward, but not too violent.
However, "sissies" are even less acceptable than "tomboys" to many people. Experts think that the life circle of today's kids should be blamed. "Most kids today are only children of their families, and they often don't have pals of the same gender to play with. Thus girls and boys usually mix while playing games, which affect their characters badly," said one expert.
